Description | I practice in areas of farm and small business tax planning, agricultural law, wills & estate planning, corporate and commercial law, real estate, estate administration and cottage succession planning. I am recognized as an expert in farm tax and succession planning, small business, cottage and vacation tax succession planning having practiced in these areas for 35 years. I am a Mediator and a Chartered Arbitrator and arbitrate tax and private disputes. I act for many provincial and national farm organizations. In 2004, I appeared in the Supreme Court of Canada on the Monsanto vs. Schmeiser case (Roundup Ready Canola) as counsel to the intervener, the Canadian Canola Growers Association. I am also a frequent lecturer on tax and estate planning. I am an active member of the CBA and MBA – being a life council member and former vice-chair of the National Wills & Trust subsection. I have taught agricultural law, wills & estate planning and ethics at Law Society of Manitoba and have been a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education seminars. I am a founding member of CAFA and have authored and edited chapters in the Family Farm Professional Manual. I have presented to the CA and CGA Certified General and CAFA on many occasions and also to The Society of Estates and Trusts on farm tax planning, use of family trusts and planning for family law. I have recently authored publications for Manitoba Agriculture and Agri-Food on Farm Tax Strategies and Wills and Succession Planning and use of Discretionary Family Trusts. I have authored articles on Cottage Succession Planning and U.S. Tax Issues for Canadian Cottages published in Cottage Life and Lake of the Woods Association News and presented on vacation home planning using Canadian and U.S. strategies. My husband, Gordon and I, have operated a grain farm at Sperling since 1974. We have two children and two grandsons whom we love to spend time with!
