This facility was initially built in 1975, (Mill Street side) with a newer wing added later, so the older wing is more cramped and reflects the era in which it was built. However, it is the staff that "make or break" any organization, and Aurora Chartwell is defined by its staff. Whether they be PSW's, RN's, RPN's, orderlies, dietary and laundry personnel, administrators, social workers, occupational therapists or medical doctors, everyone is resident centred. Residents are spoken to often, and with respect, and activities are planned and outlined to families. A Family Council meets regularly where presentations are given and concerns and new ideas are addressed. A calendar of events is distributed monthly and electronic communication is used wherever possible, facilitating quick and easy updating regarding future events.
The facility is clean - nurses are diligent and the cleaning staff is thorough. A sense of pride is evident.
I am writing this after five months of experience with Chartwell Aurora, as a family member lives there, and I am most impressed and satisfied, with the staff and its involvement, the administration and its vision, and, last but not least, with my family member's daily experience.
