| Description | JESSICA L. BURKE provides legal representation to both public and private sector unions, acting as counsel at the BC and Canada labour boards, and at grievance arbitration hearings where she is a persuasive litigator and an innovative negotiator. Jessica also provides strategic and policy advice on collective agreement administration, labour, human rights, and privacy law matters, as well as providing representation and advice at collective bargaining.In addition to her labour practice, Jessica also advises and represents individuals in human rights cases and in employment law matters such as negotiating employment contracts or termination packages, and dealing with performance management.She is frequently invited to speak at labour and human rights law conferences and seminars, and has presented on numerous topics including harassment law, attendance management, promotion, disability and the duty to accommodate.Jessica is a past Chair of the Labour Sub-section of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, and served on that Sub-section Executive for a number of years. She maintains memberships with the BC CBA’s Labour, Human Rights and Privacy Law sub-sections; and with the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers.Jessica obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, and her law degree from the University of Victoria. Her law studies included an exchange into the Civil (French) Law school at the University of Ottawa. She joined Black Gropper as an associate in January 2005 after completing her articles with the firm, and then became a partner with the firm. |
