Description | Baljinder Kaur Girn received her LLB from Queen’s University in 1997 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999 and British Columbia Bar in 2002. She began her career with the criminal defence firm Heller Rubel in Toronto, specializing in white collar crime. In 2002, Baljinder joined the Department of Justice, Federal Prosecution Service (now the Public Prosecution Service of Canada) as Crown Counsel where she has prosecuted a wide range of offences under various federal statutes, including the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Criminal Code of Canada, Income Tax Act and Immigration and Refugee Protection Act as well as having worked on the Economic Crimes Prosecutions, Supreme Court and Main Street Teams. She is currently Senior Counsel on the National Security and Organized Crime Prosecutions Team. Baljinder has also served as Team Leader of the Regulatory and General Litigation Team. As the National Advisor for Visible Minorities on the PPSC’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Chair of the BCRO Diversity and Inclusion Committee, she is deeply committed to advocating and promoting diversity in the public service. Baljinder has provided training to lawyers and law enforcement agencies on a wide range of legal and advocacy issues. Throughout her career, she has devoted significant time to mentoring students and young lawyers, including volunteering with the Law Society of BC’s Professional Legal Training Course; CBABC law schools and Women Lawyers Forum mentoring programs; DOJ articling student committee; as an articling student principal and coaching and mentoring junior lawyers on conduct of trials. As a member of the Canadian Bar Association, Baljinder currently serves on the CBABC Board of Directors as a Director-at-Large and is an elected member of the Provincial Council. She serves on various committees including Member Services and Engagement, Nomination and Court Services. Previously, Baljinder has served on the Resolutions and By-Laws Committee, Law Week and the Advisory Committee to the Judicial Council of BC. Outside the legal profession, Baljinder volunteers with numerous organizations in her community and is a passionate supporter of and participant in amateur sports in BC. |
