Alona C. Mercado

Ms. Mercado articled and practiced law with Taylor McCaffrey LLP for a couple of years before returning to Ottawa in 2001. She served several years as Policy Advisor to the Senior Federal Cabinet Minister for Manitoba before joining Monk Goodwin LLP in January 2005.

In November 2015, Ms. Mercado joined with Ms. Yenny Trinh to open their own law firm – Mercado Trinh Law LLP.

Over the years, Ms. Mercado has served on numerous community boards and committees. She was a Founding and Executive Board member of the Maples Youth Justice Committee, a member of the Board of Directors for Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba and a member of the Board of Directors for the Seven Oaks Education Foundation.

Ms. Mercado is also involved with the activities and organization of a national political party, holding numerous elected and appointed positions. She has been a Strategic Advisor, Election Day Chair, Policy and Communications Advisor to numerous campaigns at the municipal, provincial and federal levels.

Ms. Mercado has a column called “Legal 411” in The Pilipino Express, a local Filipino Canadian news magazine and was a regular lecturer for “Will Week: Estate Planning For Your Future”, a free public seminar hosted annually by the Manitoba Public Trustee and the Manitoba Bar Association for many years. She has also provided seminars and information sessions to many community groups and financial institutions.

• Corporate & Commercial – setting up a business as a sole proprietor, partnership or corporation; incorporations; setting up corporate organization of company; annual returns; buying or selling company and/or assets; etc.
