Description | Mr. Legh has been practicing law in Victoria since 1987. He is privileged to provide his clients with a wide range of legal services with an emphasis in litigation. For over 25 years he has represented injured clients from around the world; obtaining for them significant settlements or judgments which have been as high as $6.3 Million. Other areas in which Mr. Legh regularly advises clients include: Estate litigation, commercial litigation, business advice, professional malpractice, employment law, family law, tax appeals, and property assessment appeals. He attended law school at the University of Manitoba, and graduated with his LL.B. in 1985. He is a member of the Law Societies of both Manitoba and British Columbia, obtained his Family Law Mediation designation in 1993 and has authored numerous legal articles including his work as a co-author of the BC Property Assessment Manual. For many years he has been actively involved with the executive of the Victoria Bar Association, including acting as President twice and as the ongoing editor of the Bar’s newsletter. Mr. Legh has also been involved with many successful businesses in British Columbia, including restaurants, resorts, financial services and importers. In the community, James has made a point of volunteering to help out in a variety of ways. His community work is varied but highlighted by over 30 years as a leader with Scouts Canada. He currently Chairs the National Scout Foundation and is active with local youth. He has worked with the Victoria Foundation, been a member Saanich Police Board, a director of Children’s Museum of Victoria Association, the Learning Disabilities Association of British Columbia, Stages Dance Theatre Society and Kaleidoscope Theatre Productions Society. He is a holder of the Chief Scout’s Award and has been recognised by the Saanich Volunteer Adult Award (2001), the Medal of Merit for especially good service to Scouting (2005), the Canadian Bar Association (B.C.) Community Service Award (2008), and the Bar to the Medal of Merit for continued good service to Scouting (2011). |
