Susannah’s practice has focused on trusts and estates law since her call to the bar in 2002. Susannah has experience in estate planning (including wills, powers of attorney, insurance and testamentary trusts), estate administration (including advising attorneys and guardians of property, executors, administrators and beneficiaries, and real estate transfers and rectification) and estate litigation. Professional Activities Susannah is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”), and a member of STEP Inside (the STEP Canada magazine) editorial board. She is a past member (for three terms) of the Ontario Bar Association Council, a Past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Trusts & Estates Section Executive and a trustee of the OBA Foundation. She is a Past Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Division Executive Committee and a Past Co-Chair of the Ontario Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Division Continuing Legal Education Committee. Susannah is the 2011 inaugural recipient of the Ontario Bar Association’s Heather McArthur Memorial Young Lawyers’ Award which recognizes exceptional contributions and/or achievements in continuing legal education or the development of the law, for the benefit of the profession or the citizens of Ontario. Publications Susannah has published several articles on the subjects of will drafting and estate administration, including “Costs Incurred in Collecting Executor’s Compensation”, Estates, Trusts & Pensions Journal (Vol. 28, 2009, pp. 123-128) and “Indemnify Me! Examining the Principle that the Cost of Preparing Executor’s Accounts is Always a Personal Expense of the Executor”, Estates, Trusts & Pensions Journal (Vol. 29, 2009, pp. 5-16), and has chaired or co-chaired several Ontario Bar Association programs, as well as being a regular speaker at seminars both for lawyers and for the general public on estate administration and estate planning topics. |
