 I can not put into words the amount of gratitude I have for the Capelle Kane firm, specifically, Betsy Kane. I am an American citizen and my partner is a Canadian citizen. My partner and I consulted with Betsy prior to a family trip for a wedding outside of Canada. During the trip COVID 19 erupted and the borders began to close. Our return to Canada should have been an easy process since we are common law through the Canadian Government. It was the exact opposite. My encounter with the Canadian Border Services Agent was extremely hostile. The agent ignored our signed and notarized statutory of declaration for a common law union (which is a Canadian document, signed by me, my partner, and a Canadian Notary) and claimed it to be invalid therefore deeming me unable to enter Canada. After separating my partner and I the agent began speaking to me using very derogatory words and telling me that I was to be immediately driven to closest border crossing. Betsy was there for us during the entire process. As soon as she was told that the agent was trying to send me away she called and spoke to the agent, and the supervisor. It was apparent that the agents did not fully understand the Canadian law. I am so thankful that Betsy was there for us during this time. Her knowledge and experience on these matters allowed me to return with my family during this crisis. Had we not had Betsy on our side, I am certain that I would have been separated from my partner and sent to be alone in upstate New York.

 My spouse and I were stopped at the canadian border upon return from a family trip to mexico during the Covid-19 pandemic. Border security indicated that our common law union was invalid and therefore my spouse would be driven that night to upstate new york and we would be separated indefinitely. I had prior contact with the Capelle Kane law firm for matters concerning my spouse's immigration and contacted Betsy Kane directly during this encounter. She was available immediately and contacted the Border agent's supervisor to clarify that our union was in fact legal. The agent was forced to stamp my spouse's passport and did so begrudgingly. The border security guards don't seem to know the laws in which they are enforcing and seem to act on impulse. I highly recommend having competent legal representation for any immigration matters. Capelle Kane immigration attorneys went above and beyond and I would recommend them extremely highly.

 Our experience with Betsy Kane at Capelle Kane was driven out of a complex need to cross the border from the US into Canada as a US/Canada couple during the COVID crisis. Undoubtedly, Betsy was the preeminent counsel on such topics and we secured her services (at lightening speed) as the need dictated. Betsy was so incredibly impressive with her knowledge, skills and gut instincts on what we needed to do, the strategies we needed to consider, and the ultimate approach we decided to take. All said, we were successful in our journey stacked against some very low odds, and we singularly owe our success (and happiness) to Betsy.
